Flowers and Gardening is a creative showcase and a discussion that aims to expand how values such as collective care, dignity and obscurity can be used as part of the grounding principles towards achieving trustworthy AI in Africa. The presentation will center on a fiction piece which maps out techniques marginalized communities have used to navigate and survive technology surveillance and resulting violence. The stories told through the piece contextualise a rather abstract concept of opacity and how to work with communities to embed them in our technical designs.
